Serious survey ~ Has anything scary happened to you, as a direct result of making friends with someone online?

Everyone has heard stories, but how many have experienced anything 'bad'?

Serious survey ~ Has anything scary happened to you, as a direct result of making friends with someone online?
Yes. Before I got married, (quite a few years ago) I tried the eHarmony/dating online thing. Met a guy from Arizona, he came to visit up here due to his work so we met and proceeded to "date". After about...2 weeks? He started becoming REALLY psycho. Stalking, knocking on my bedroom window at like 4am in the morning screaming about how he "knew" I was with someone else.

After about a month of dealing with the craziness, I called the police and my ex-boyfriend (we broke up because he was attending West Point and I was worried I was affecting his school work). When the police and my ex (now my hubby) showed up, I set into works a restraining order and have had one ever since.

I am still not sure why he didn't go back to Arizona after he came up for work, other than to basically stalk me.
Reply:well I didn't experience this, but my friend did...

a "cute boy" added her on myspace and they started talking. they had a lot in common and everything, and they wanted to meet each other, but she wouldn't because she was scared her parents would find out. after she told him no, he stopped talking to her online. he had her number but he never called her and he never answered his phone. he said it was because he was always grounded. but then about a week later she got a phone call while she was up late. it was a man's voice. he asked her something about the show she was watching. she freaked out and she didn't know who it was, but assumed it was the guy she had been talking to, since he was acting weird. and when he asked her about the show, she figured he had to be out side her house or something to know. she ran to her parents room after he hung up and told them that someone had called her. the next day she deleted her myspace and changed her cell phone number. her parents got different locks to the house, and she never stays alone.

..similar thing happened to a girl in my county. she "met" someone online and they werent really talking or anything but her dad left her at home one day. as he was going down the road, he saw a man walking, but didn't think much about it. when he got home, he found his daughter, hanging.

scary. i tried to make these make sense.
Reply:I used to be on dating sites online and both sides of the the coin men and women can be less than economical with the truth. Many of the women that I have written to have posted pictures that are flattering in the way of age so they have lied. And with the internet this is a problem how do you know someone is for real and genuine until you meet them. You have to be very careful , I met one who ticked all the boxes and seemed brilliant until we met she was a crocadillapig in other words I would have had to put two brown bags on her head just incase the first one split. Needless to say have given up the dating on line now on here instead much safer ha ha.
Reply:I made friends with this guy who pretended to be around 26. We met up in person in a public place during the day time just for a drink and it turned out he was like in his mid to late thirties! Much as I can appreciate people wanting to say they are younger and all, and don't get me wrong, I wasn't in any trouble because I won't be taken for a ride like that, I told him to back off or I'd ruin everything he had ever worked for (he was a lawyer). And he backed off.
Reply:yep twice actually. i was forced anally once. and another time there was this guy we met a few times at my place. then he would just start showing up. i was afraid to leave my apartment alone. he wasnt psyco or anything would come over just for sex. he FINALLY got a clue when i move 4hours away
Reply:I wouldn't say scary, but i started getting emails from another user on here and eventually he started telling me vividly all about his sex life and conquests, he spared no details either! I think he got most of his ideas from porn films his emails got so bad
Reply:I had something scary happen and he wasn't even a friend, in fact i could not find him anywhere he got me on IM and was freaking me out wanting me to set up a web cam as he had something nice to show me...My Email and IM are now private...
